Cardinal Upgrade

The recently completed implementation of the Cardinal statewide financial management system was a complex multiyear project.  Launched in 2009, the Cardinal Project was implemented using a phased approach.  Implementations began with VDOT in 2011 and DOA the following year in 2012.  All remaining state agency implementations occurred in 2 waves:  Wave 1 agencies deployed in 2014, and Wave 2 deployed in 2016. 

Between 2009 and 2016, Oracle released a new version of its PeopleSoft applications, PeopleSoft 9.2.   However, an upgrade to the current version was put on hold until all agencies successfully implemented Cardinal.  With all Commonwealth agencies now deployed, we have begun work on upgrading Cardinal to PeopleSoft 9.2, as well as updating the underlying technical architecture.


Cardinal Upgrade Go-Live is Tuesday, April 11, 2016

The Cardinal Project Team is updating Cardinal training materials to reflect the Cardinal 9.2 upgrade changes. Those updates are being loaded to the Cardinal website as they are completed. Through April, you will see 2 versions for many of the training items: the original Cardinal 9.1 version and an additional Cardinal 9.2 version. Both will be available until the cutover to Cardinal 9.2 is complete.
